Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) Information:

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is located at 3400 E Sky Harbor Blvd Phoenix, AZ 85034. The Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is a joint civil-military public airport located 3 miles southeast of the central business district of the city of Phoenix, in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. Sky Harbor was the fourth airport built in Phoenix. It was established with one runway in 1928 by Scenic Airways, an airline start-up which collapsed the following year after the Black Thursday stock market crash. Acme Investment Company then owned the airport until 1935. During this time, American Airlines began the first scheduled passenger and air mail service to the airport in 1930. The city of Phoenix purchased the airport from Acme for $100,000 in 1935, and TWA began service to San Francisco in 1938. Today Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is one of the ten busiest in the world with a $90 million daily economic impact. On a typical day:

  • Almost 1500 airplanes arrive and depart each day.
  • Almost 100,000 passengers and 700 tons of air cargo arrive and depart each day.
  • Terminal 1 was the first "modern" airport terminal at the time it was built in October 1952 & cost about $853,000.
  • Terminal 2 was completed a decade later in 1962 for a total cost of $2,700,000. Its footprint is about 330,000 square feet.
  • Terminal 3 was opened in 1979 provides additional footprint of 880,000 square feet. This terminal was built at cost of $35 millions.
  • Terminal 4 was built in 1990 at a cost of about $248 millions. It's footprint measures about 2,300,000 square feet.

Roadrunner Shuttle Grand Canyon Tours:

See the red rock country of Sedona as you head towards Grand Canyon National Park in a beautiful brand new Mercedes Benz Sprinter Van. There see the beautiful views from at the canyon's South and East rims. The steep-sided Grand canyon was carved out by the Colorado River in the Sedonas of the state of Arizona. Nearly two billion years of the Earth's geological history has been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,000 feet / 1,800 meters. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery. It is considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. While the specific geologic processes and timing that formed the Grand Canyon are the subject of debate by geologists, recent evidence suggests the Colorado River established its course through the canyon at least 17 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River continued to erode and form the canyon to its present-day configuration. You will see that for thousands of years, the area has been continuously inhabited by Native Americans who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon ("Ongtupqa" in Hopi language) a holy site and made pilgrimages to it. The first European known to have viewed the Grand Canyon was García López de Cárdenas from Spain, who arrived in 1540.
