About and history of Santa Barbara Airport

Aviation history of Santa Barbara Airport began in 1914 and is adjacent to the University of California, Santa Barbara. Commercial service in the airport began in 1932 with Pacific Seaboard Airlines. United Airlines inaugurated service from Santa Barbara Airport in 1936. Airport currently has 3 runways and in addition to this airport had an additional strip. It is a small hub airport with 180.000 annual aircraft operations of commercial and general aviation flights. The airport covers around 954 acres of land and is owned and operated by the city of Santa Barbara. Since 2007 this airport has gone through major changes some of which includes redesigning of passenger loading bridges, which include security, car rentals and gates.

About and history of Santa Barbara City

Santa Barbara was discovered as early as 1542 and lies between the steeply rising Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Since years Santa Barbara exploded from a quiet agricultural community to a busy, well rounded community. Santa Barbara grew steadily over the next century, passing from Spain to Mexico in 1822, and then to the United States in 1848.
